A Note from the President

The past month has been both a busy and productive time for the Board. We welcomed Brickman, our new landscapers. They come to us with good references from local communities and they have worked very hard with us to provide our residents with the best
possible contract.

After some unavoidable delays we have finally opened our Recreational Complex. There is a newly resurfaced tennis court, 2 shuffleboard courts and of course two new bocce courts. The
complex will be kept locked so that we may keep all of the needed equipment in a storage container on the courts. You will find the key to open the gate on a big ring, in the clubhouse, behind the kitchen door nearest the water fountain. Please be sure to return the key to the same place when you are finished with it so all may enjoy the activities.

Our newly resurfaced parking lot is looking good. Thanks to all of you for your patience during it’s repairs. It certainly was quite a mess out there for awhile but everyone seemed to make the best of it.

My thanks to Mary Campbell for the wonderful article printed in last month’s newsletter that she wrote for the HPCA Website. Good job Mary! If you haven’t visited our website yet, please do so at

Looking forward to seeing you all out and about.

Try It, You’ll Like It!

Square Dancing Lessons Start
September 23rd.

The Heritage Squares Club is starting square dance lessons in October. Try Square Dancing on Tuesdays, September 23rd and 30th for free. If you like it, continue on in October.

No special skills or abilities are required. If you can walk, you can learn to square dance. It is easy exercise for both the body and the mind. Lessons will start at 7:30 pm on Tuesdays. This will be the only opportunity for new dancers to join this year.

Come, bring a partner, and enjoy the fun that 10 - 12 couples have every Tuesday. We have one of the best callers in the triangle and he’ll teach you how.

Any questions please contact:
Will & Jean Harper: 467-0224
or Walt & Sandy Ramsey: 465-1516.

An Evening With Elvis

On Saturday evening, September 13 at 7:00 pm in our clubhouse, we will enjoy one of the premier Elvis personalities in our area under the theme of “An Evening with Elvis.” This event will feature Andy Woodall who has performed here before and has entertained in many area locations.

This event will be held in a supper club setting with attendees sitting at tables rather than rows of chairs.

The price is $4.50 per person. Attendees may provide their own beverages and soda and ice will be available here. Each attendee is asked to bring snacks or hors d’oeuvres in ample amount to feed all persons at their table.

Attendees are asked to be seated by 6:30 pm for drinks, snacks and socialization prior to the 7:00 pm start. Doors will open at 6:00 pm. Reservations can be made on the sign up sheet. This will be a lottery event and the deadline is noon, Monday, September 1.

Ladies’ Lunch

A representative from Walgreens will be here to discuss their pharmacy’s policies and procedures and the possibility of scheduling a future “brown bag” lunch where each individual can review her own medication regimen.

The cost for lunch is $7.00 and the deadline for reservations is noon, Monday, September 1, 2008. Your hostesses are Janice Bond and Eva Germano.

HP Trip to the Durham Bulls Game

On July 9th, forty-three resident of Heritage Pines carpooled to the Durham Bulls Stadium in Durham for a Bulls/Norfolk Tides game. We all arrived and just made it to the Herald-Sun Home Run Patio before the rains came. We had a wonderful but damp picnic and the game was delayed about an hour. All in all we had a great time.

Welcome Brickman
“Enhancing the American Landscape Since 1939”

Brickman Field Notes:

Brickman is very excited to participate in your monthly newsletter and we view these as a direct source of contact with you and we plan to inform you of the current happenings in the landscape and the expected work load for the upcoming months.

The month of August was spent developing efficiencies both in the mowing and pruning schedule of the property. As you can imagine, with a property as large as Heritage Pines, these efficiencies take time to develop. We are confident that we are moving in the right direction.

For the month of September we are planning to continue to develop efficiencies in our mowing and pruning schedules, continue our property enhancement actions such as pruning common areas, touch up pruning around the homes, weed control, and pruning of trees that are overhanging walkways. September is also the month that we plan to begin our turf renovation program which includes aerating, overseeding and fertilization.  As we draw closer, we will communicate our schedule more clearly and inform you of the process for locating irrigation heads and other obstacles that we do not want to damage in the process.

In the event that you have any questions or comments for us, please drop a note with Betty in the clubhouse office as we are in constant communication with her about the status of the operations on the property.

Once again, thank you for this opportunity, and we are looking forward to a long term relationship and assisting you in the maturation of your property!
