A Note from the President

What would Heritage Pines be without all of the volunteers who give so generously of their time and talents? This year, 175 of these residents will be honored during one of two Volunteer Recognition celebrations. Those of you who are being honored received invitations sent out by the Social Committee. This community is such a melting pot with residents who have come here from all over the country. With this great mix of people, who have had such diverse lifetime experiences, no wonder we get so many different activities and events. Don’t forget to thank these volunteers the next time you attend one of these functions, and let them know how much they are appreciated.

Speaking of volunteers, I was in the clubhouse today when a gentleman stopped me in the hallway to ask what all of the ladies were doing in the clubhouse. I told him to follow me into the craft room, and, to his surprise, he found a room full of ladies busily
sewing, cutting, and stuffing pillows.

This group was the Rex volunteers, who are a dedicated group of ladies who work on projects that are distributed to patients at Rex Hospital. Across the hallway was another group of ladies who were busy knitting and crocheting. Some of these ladies make sweaters to be donated to Warm Up America as well as baby hats and caps for Rex Hospital. So, why not stop by and see some of this beautiful work? This group meets twice a month so check your calendars.

Thanks to all of you who support the volunteer Board and its efforts.

Looking forward to seeing you out and about.

Pat Schneider

Rex Volunteers

On September 24 Lois Copeland of Rex Hospital Volunteers visited Heritage Pines. Since her last
visit thirty ladies have been working on projects to be distributed to patients at Rex Hospital. Our completed projects included "angel bags," drain bags, fleece wraps, totes and pillows, incubator covers, baby hats and blankets, and over 250 assorted
pillows. A special project this visit was a dozen pumpkin pillows made and appliquéd by Liz Mongrain.

Our volunteers are encouraged by Lois’s stories about how our projects are used in the hospital. We are happy that they bring a little happiness into the lives of sick people.
We thank all our volunteers and all the people who have donated fabric, yarn, and sewing notions. We plan to use it all.

The Rex Volunteers meet twice a month in the clubhouse. Please check your calendar for the dates. If you have any questions, please call Bernie Aliberti.

Brickman Field Notes:

Residents of Heritage Pines,

We are now seeing the full advantages of our fall aeration and over-seeding process.

Several areas are beginning to fill in with our fescue seed.

Remember, if your lawn had many bare spots or weeds, it may take a total of two or three seasons of fall aeration to really turn those areas around. Overall, we are very happy with the quality of turf. Between the aeration and fertilization process, we feel the results are fantastic.

Our May topic for conversation will be Controlling Unwanted Yard Pests specifically dealing with red ants, Japanese beetles, mosquitoes, and other pests you may have questions about. This will be held on May 21 at 1:30 p.m.

Other than that, things are in full swing, and we are glad to be providing services for your community!
